Omaha Public Library welcomes authors in September

Omaha Public Library is pleased to welcome five visiting authors in September. The upcoming events provide an opportunity for individuals of all ages and interests to meet some of their favorite authors and learn more about the inspiration behind their work. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Books will be available for purchase and signing following author discussions. 

  • C.J. Box—New York Times bestselling mystery author C.J. Box has written 11 novels, including the Joe Pickett series. His break-out book Blue Heaven won the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 2008. 
    • Join us for cocktails with the author on Friday, Sept. 7, 5:30 p.m. at W. Clarke Swanson Branch, 9101 W. Dodge Rd. This event is free with a Friends of Omaha Public Library membership. Those who are not yet Friends members who would like to participate in the reception can join at the door for $15. Registration is requested.     • A book talk and signing with C.J. Box will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m., at W. Dale Clark Main Library, 215 S. 15th St. 

  • Lisa Harrison JacksonSaturday, Sept. 8, 10:30 a.m., at Charles B. Washington Branch, 2868 Ames Ave.
    Romance author Lisa Harrison Jackson has written novels, short stories and poems, and has had her works published in newspapers and magazines. Participate in her writing workshop followed by a book signing. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is limited to 20 people. Call 402.444.4849 to register.

  • Jennie Fields—Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m., at W. Dale Clark Main Library, 215 S. 15th St. 
    As part of Omaha Reads programming to celebrate Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence, Fields will discuss her lush, involving novel set in the early 20th century. The Age of Desire is the story of Wharton’s illicit affair and sexual awakening at the age of 45 with journalist Morton Fullerton. 

  • Francesca SegalThursday, Sept. 20, 6 p.m. at Joslyn Castle, 3902 Davenport St.
    Segal will present her modern-day recasting of The Age of Innocence. A smart and slyly funny tale of love, temptation, confusion and commitment, The Innocents explores a small, tight-knit Jewish suburb of London in which one young man’s pre-wedding panic illuminates the universal conflict between responsibility and passion.

  • Andrea CremerThursday, Sept. 20, 6:30 p.m. at Saddlebrook Branch, 14850 Laurel Ave. 
    The New York Times bestselling author of the Nightshade series will share insider knowledge on the world of fantasy, from Calla to Harry Potter, shape-shifters to vampires and werewolves.
