Veterans will be honored at Florence Library and Community Center celebration
November 01, 2012
In honor of our nation’s veterans, Florence Library and Community Center, 2920 Bondesson St., will present a historic Florence Veterans Day celebration on Friday, Nov. 9, at 3:45 p.m. All are invited to attend this free event.

The program will begin with introductory remarks from Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, Omaha Public Library Executive Director Gary Wasdin, and City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Acting Director Brook Bench. The U.S. Air Force (USAF) Heartland of America Band and Boy Scout Troop 20 will follow with a performance of the national anthem and a flag-raising ceremony. Those attending will have the opportunity to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Two special speakers will be featured during the celebration. Deb Miner, Air Force veteran and first vice regent of the Major Isaac Sadler - La Belle Vue of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), will give a brief history on women in the military. Purple Heart veteran James Martin Davis will present “Proud to be a Veteran.” The event will conclude with a song and a reception with music and refreshments, during which the Ponca Piecers quilting group will award a veteran with a patriotic handmade quilt.

This celebration is made possible through the support of the USAF Heartland of America Band, the Ponca Piecers, Doug and Connie Rose, Boy Scout Troop 20, VFW Post 3421, Blooms Florist, Friends of Omaha Public Library and the Omaha Public Library Foundation.
